I think the Seabrook piece is worth reading for the new and innovative ideas coming out of Vermont - I was taken aback at everything I didn't know about flood management, and what these very smart people have apparently figured out, and I'm also horrified to think that the new flood maps just probably won't happen, because who needs FEMA, really? Arggghhhh. The material on Texas was just as depressing as I expected it to be - we don't like regulation, it will never happen again even though it has happened over and over again, we had no reason to expect that anything like this would ever happen here even though "flash flood" is in the name, it's not worth responding to those alarms because sometimes it turns out there isn't much water, etc. Happy to live in the over-regulated state I live in where the government apparently does in fact care if I live or die, even if the federal government no longer does.
